  • Bought a 1973 TR6

    B) bought a 1973 Tr6 that had been sitting in the open for 25 years. 3 weeks into it, it is now running, has new floors and rocker panels, Brakes, Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders. Question: from sitting so long in the damp, the Clutch DISC seems to be Rusted to the flywheel. Is there any Way of "Freeing it up " other than removing the Transmission ? Thanks

First off, welcome! I have a 73 myself. We'd love to see pics.

On the clutch I'm not certain how to free it up but I tend to think that if its rusted to the flywheel you'll want to replace it and resurface the flywheel anyway.

Pulling the tranny isn't all that hard its just time-consuming. Hopefully if you replaced the floors you already have the interior out. If so, you're halfway done pulling the tranny.

Welcome from one 73 to another !! In addition to Bentley, and Haynes , you may find these handbooks very valuable.

Just my 2 cents and NFI

This used to happen on my TR4.
What i used to do was to put it in 1st, turn the ignition key and the car would surge forward on the starter, then the engine would start.
While the car moved forward, I would pump the clutch pedal and usually within a few yards the disc would break free of the flywheel.

What Walt said. You can do it in 1st or reverse just make sure you unplug the coil and have plenty of runway.

No no it's actually a 73 bumper. I just got another parts car...71/w overdrive. Came with a 73 front bumper. They're unique to 73. The bumper I got from you I'm keeping for my 71 cus it's an early bumper

Notice the pic above. Notice the mounting points...how far they extend from the rear. The early bumpers are almost flush with the rear. You can tell an early vs 73/74 on the car too. The valance lenses on early will extend proud of the bumper. The 73/74 you'll see a bigger gap behind the bumper and the lenses will be about even with the back of the bumper

Of course the 74 is the same as the 73 except the holes are drilled for the over riders
