  • Interesting TR Valuation article here -

Not sure this has been posted yet, but I stumbled across this article concerning our cars value. It is dated 6/9/17 so it is pretty new.

      Yes interesting. Thanks for sharing.

While its great to see these cars finally trend upward in value, its somewhat concerning at the same time. In this age of of the internet, high-profile auctions, and people like Wayne Carini in Chasing Classic Cars, the prices for some cars have now been driven into the stratosphere. Take a look at Lotus Esprit prices now vs. just a few years ago. The same thing has been happening with the Porsche 928 and TVR Tasmin as of late. Been kicking myself for missing the window.

Since I don't have any intentions of ever selling my TR6, it's my dream car after all, and I have no children who will benefit from an increased value I couldn't care less about the monetary value on a personal level.

However, and you mentioning car brokers for the rich Wayne Carini is kinda fitting, the fact that there's now a slightly different kind of people buying TR6s is extremely beneficial for those of us who already own one in a different way. Imagine for a moment Carini selling a TR6 to one of his customer, the car is nice but in need of a partial restoration, do you for a second believe that those kind of people will accept cheap low quality replacement parts "Made in China" ?

The safety catch on my hood broke when I removed it the other day and I ordered a replacement from Rimmer Bros and it arrived the next day, excellent service (especially considering I live in a different country) but the quality of the part was disappointing. Here's why .....

The angle of the safety catch in the open position is all wrong and if I close the hood the way you're supposed to close a hood, by dropping it from a reasonable height, the catch goes on the wrong side of the loop on the lock and ends up bending something. You have to manually feed it past the loop and then push down on the hood

No big deal as such except that it's not supposed to be like that and w

Hmmm... I have a TR6 and an Esprit. I want to sell one to buy a race car - but which to sell? I love the Lotus, rives like nothing else - but I also love the TR6 because it's so much fun.

Directionally, valuations for our cars is/will be a function of the age group they appeal to. My sense is that my kids will have a lot less interest in a TR6 than I do. How many times have we been reminded by someone in a parking lot "I had one of those in high school?" These darlings are a connection to our past. They aren't all that rare or unique. While I'd sure like to get out of it what I have into it, there's a better chance of a monkey crawling out of my bottom. But as a reminder, what they are: seasonal toys, a ball to drive, make you feel great, bring joy and memories back to folks who used to own one. What they aren't: investment grade. No harm or shame in that, just the plain reality....now let's drive it like it's stolen!

The ask on the esprit has crept up, but are they selling?
I'd like a V8 but I keep seeing the same few rotating in at 60k.
The ones at 35-45 sell, but since there are so few they don't hang around for long.

928 GTS are up sky high, but even bring-a-Porsche can't get the regular ones over 20k.

TVRs - there's like 3 that still run....
              I'm really not that interesting...
