  • New TR6 owner and 6-pack member

    Hi all,

I just want to introduce myself. I am a new (first time) TR6 owner and 6-pack member (got first issue yesterday). Just picked up a 1975 TR6 with 24004 original miles and 1 owner. I got a lot of really cool history on the car (British Leyland Passport service record, dealer contract for convertible top operation, dealer braking pamphlet for all british leyland cars of 1975, original bill of sale, recalls paperwork and original pimento touch-up vial (dried up but neat to have). If anyone is interested in seeing this information (i am not sure how much has been available online but would share with fellow 6-packers). Everything on the car is original. It starts first turn, but rubber and other issues occur with even a minty 40 yr old car. I have been lurking and learning from this crew for the past 6-months before ipulled the trigger on a purchase and joining.
I am located in south east PA at the intersection of DE and MD, so if any 6-packers are local and want to help with a once-over, i would appreciate it and provide a nice meal and brews.

Welcome al! Sounds like you got a nice low mileage find. If you've been lurking, you know we all love to see pictures.

I believe you have several 6-packers in your general vacinity. What is your background/experience with LBC's, and what motivated you to buy a TR6?

    Cheers,

This is my first LBC, so no practical experience. Previous triumph experience has all been motorcycles (restored a 68 t100 last year). I always loved the TR6 and I wanted a classic car my wife and I could enjoy together (don't always want to take out the bikes), so I started learning (mostly from this forum) and searching for one. I found this hidden gem through a friend of the family. The PO wasn't planning on selling, but was also not using the 6 and would only let it go to a good home.

Here is a pic of the car after I picked it up yesterday. Going to be sunny today so I will have a lot more pictures in good lighting to share.

That's like stepping back in time, to find one that original.
Check your dash pots. Flush all your fluids, put fresh in. Drain the block from the right side block plug by the starter.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I am pretty sure I am the most junior 6-packer (both LBC experience and age..36). I went through the car today and this is what I noticed. Dash pots were full and clean. I followed the Bently regarding mixture adjustments and idle. Car was idling ok but at ~500, I adjusted a little and brought to ~700 per manual and ran and sounded great afterwards. I did notice that doing their slide test that it indicated that the mixture was lean (lifted slide <1/4in and noticed drop in RMP). When i tried to adjust with mixture tool I noticed that the setting was at most rich (turned fully in). I replaced the plugs but haven't driven enough to get a read. Is this test accurate and what is the best way to "richen" the mixture when the adjust is at max? Just a reminder that everything is stock. I also noticed that the car was pulling to the right during breaking. Pulled the front left wheel and piston was locked. Going to need a brake job, any recommendations (upgrade, rebuild, replace)? I pulled the caliper and could free the piston, but the seals are worn and will need a rebuild. Another small thing i noticed was that the only knob that shows wear is the choke. With only 24k miles and never driven in cold/rain, it is really neat seeing this. Choke was needed and used every time car was started/used and others were most likely never touched. Just a little piece of car anthropology.

                    Here are a couple pics

                      Welcome, "albirhiza"
Since you've introduced yourself and your car and it now seems you're ready to start talking and asking about mechanical issues, considerfuture post in one of the other related forums such as "mechanical", "electrical" or any other that may apply.
If you'll post those carb related questions you had over in "mechanical", I'll give you my thoughts.
