Welcome. I was in your shoes seven years ago. I started my quest by looking at as many as I could for sale, at car shows and friends cars. I drive a few to decide if the car drove to my expectations. I bought a couple of books about buying and restoring the TR6. I made a couple of TR6 friend/owners to offer advice and accompany me on some of the viewings. After about a year I was confident enough to know what to look for on my own. Finally I found "the one".

I did not find 6pack until after I bought her.

You are starting in the right place.

    Regards
    Greg

It also helps us help you if we know what level of car are you looking for, a project car, a driver, a gem. Are you the guy that's likes working on them and has the space and experience...that kind of thing.

Find and join a local club. See if you can get someone to let you drive theirs? You may love it, but you may not. These cars aren't for everyone. They're a labor of love. On one hand they're not modern cars ...turn the key and go. On the other hand, they're easy to tinker on. And tinker you will. If you're not a tinkerer, then prepare to pay someone and if you're not prepared to pay, consider something modern

That said, there are tons of improvements that can be done to modernize them if you like

The saying around here is buy as much car as you can afford. Rust free if possible? Don't be shy about asking questions of this group. If you find a car, post pictures here and we'll pick it apart

          Good luck

What part of world do you live in?

Figure $12-15,000. for a car you can enjoy immediately. There's a nice yellow one in 6-Pack Classixfieds (left column).
$8K-12K would be a driver that will need some maintenance.

Are you mechanically adept, have tools and garage space?

TR6's are a good value given their design and their rewarding driving experience; they are just needy for adjustments.
You probably don't want to start with rust repair, so keep that in mind.
              Welcome to 6-Pack forums.

Not sure if you are looking for a ready to drive car or a project. Here is a great start for a project car. Needs a lot of work, But I would hate to see this car junked.

Since you are in North Carolina, this car is not too far (Blascksburg SC)

Here is a link to the Triumph Club of the Carolinas. This is a quite active club with a lot of knowledgeable Triumph owners.

Welcome to 6-Pack.... seeing as you are new to the TR6, best bet is to join the local club and use a surrogate buyer when you go to look at a car. If you look at the left side menu of the site you'll see links to the various people who have volunteered to help put buyers.

Best advice is to run from rust.... especially a rusty frame. When you finda car we'll tell you where to poke and prod to determine rust areas.

                      Have patience.....

Welcome.. I'm a firm believer in learning as much as you can about the LBC before you make a purchase. NFI, but believe you will find the books noted below of extreme value, and a thorough read could help you greatly.

Welcome to the club. I will give you the advise I was given about buying a Triumph, "Don't buy junk!"

And when I asked about spare parts, "You can buy almost the entire car from a catalog."

Post pictures of cars that you find to this site and the experts will tell you what is what.

Finally, I want to mention how helpful this forum and club is. These guys and gals have made ownership much easier than I could ever have imagined. If you have a problem, do a search of past threads and the solution is there 9 out of 10 times. If not, ask.

+1.. A pic is worth a thousand words goes at least double for these LBC. When possible, several pics of the frame, particularly where the rear trailing arms attach, differential mounting area, interior, and engine compartment, should prove extremely valuable.

The three big questions, IMHO are: (1) how long have you owned the car, (2) what have you done to restore/maintain/upgrade it (with doc), and (3) why are you selling it ?

                              Welcome!

I would say +1 on all the advice you've gotten. These cars are great fun to drive but there is no doubt that they need love and attention in order to keep running and driving right. They are actually really easy and straightforward cars to work on even if you are not exceptionally mechanically inclined.

Also, unlike many sites, on this site there really are no dumb questions. If you don't know something or are unsure, don't be shy, just ask.
