  • Guys, can we stay on topic on this Forum?

This is not meant to discourage any one from asking questions about anything, but it will be a huge benefit to everyone if we keep this forum for it's original intent and keep the mechanical, electrical, body, OT, etc. topics in their proper forums. It is very hard for us moderators to move a topic to a forum where it will get maximum benefit and answers, once it takes on a life of it's own here.

The questions asked are more likely to get a better response and they will be in an area that all who read that particular forum or search it for answers will benefit.

Please remember the original intent, as stated by the Webmaster when this forum was originally created:

    Looking to buy a TR6?

Did you just buy one and want to share the experience?

Post here and get help, or share your experiences and give the benefit of your experiences to other prospective owners.

    I agree Paul.

The problem is that by default, this "Prospective or new Owner" category is the one imposed if we don't choose any, as I've done and as others are doing.

I'm not sure if there's anything to do except ask everyone to be more careful and not forget to choose the right category.

    Any suggestions?

Q, I was not aware of that. I am in the habit of jumping to a "selected" forum for the particular application and then looking for an answer. And if I have found none, just entering my post there.

If what you say is the default, then I guess we all need to just try to go to the appropriate forum and select it before we post.

It's when we jump at the "New Topic" tab for posting a new subject....

        Your suggestion is good.

"With the power vested in me" I just moved 2 topics out of this Forum to the one they belong in.
Paul, you along with the other moderators can do the same thing when it happens.

I think that every 'newbie' starts his first topic here, whether it is correct or not. As Roberts said, it is the default topic.

              Ken,

I know we can move them, as i have moved several from Mechanical to Body, etc. I just hate moving something that someone new (or OLD, as has been happening) posts because if it gets a few additional posts, then when they come back, it's gone.

This thread was created to talk about getting the new car and being new to it and the forum. If we go to any of the other "title specific forums" and click on "New Topic", your thread will be added to the proper forum for that area of the car. If someone has a problem fitting a dashboard, or rebuilding a fuel pump, this is not the place for it. And what is learned from everyone's experience will stay in the area where it is applicable and searchable.

Having also been "empowered" to moderate this forum, part of the problem (in my opinion) is the forum title. Prospective Owners makes sense i.e. someone looking to buy a car and in need of advice, opinions and guidance. But then it's also called New Owners i.e. they now have a car and need help.........and that what's confusing to me......I'm a new car owner and need help and the forum title implies I should "start here".

Once you own a car, you post in the appropriate forum. Maybe we just need a new forum title that makes it clear the forum is for prospective owners looking to buy and needing help. And then another title for Introducing yourself and your car.

a question ,as I moderate on another site,...do we have a way of telling the topic starter that his/her topic has been moved if/when You do? I know we do in that "other" forum....

when we move it , we can tell then in a pm where its moved to and why

I've done it myself recently...just going to fast to get a new topic up...asking for assistance...and then as I press the submit button I suddenly realize I am not where I think I was. Just have to be more careful!
Thanks to the moderator that moved my post after I immediately realized my error.

Only the topic has been moved to the appropriate Forum. It will still show up in the chronological order of the last post made to that particular topic.
Moving it has no affect as to how it shows up when a person goes to "RECENT TOPICS".
Now ..if a person has placed an electical question in the "Perspective or New..." and it was moved to the "Electrical" by a moderator, then of course it won't show up in that original Forum catagory if the poster goes back to the "Perspective or New..' looking for it, but it will show up both in "ELECTRICAL" and "RECENT TOPICS" .
I don't think the poster will have a problem locating his post. He may not even realize what catagory he mistakenly put it in in the first place.
If he does have trouble finding it because he didn't look in the "RECENT POST" or by searching for his own post in his "PROFILE", or up top in "MY TOPICS " then maybe he'll just ask where we put it....you think ?

I for one really like the "recent topics" format....gives you a snapshot of everything without jumping around.
