I agree about the bracket frame. I had a look at the TR5 and TR250 Spare Parts Catalogs and both use the same part no. 812001, and both show no kidney pads. I took out my first edition TR6 Spare Parts Catalog and saw that the part no. is 815721 and it shows the kidney pads. So most likely I have either the TR250 bracket or an old replacement one.

Looking forward to any of your pics!

The 68 TR250 and the 69 TR6 did not have the step or the kidney pads from the factory. After owning a 250 and researching many photos and reference books, I have come to this conclusion.

        Big Dave, thanks for that.

I actually took my original 250 dash brace off and replaced it with a later six brace because I liked the utility of the later bracket with the kidney pads. I recently found the bracket, still in good shape, and verified the difference. I sold my 250 in 2018

I have an unmolested '69 with the stepped bracket and kidney panels. The dash has the chrome glovebox hinges of the TR250 but the black dash screws of the 6, I think they used what they had for the early 6s. One has to wonder if any 6 parts made it into 250s...

I'd have to disagree. It is possible that an early 69 would have a leftover TR250 part in it but most 69's had the step support in them.
