  • New gas tank instalation

I purchased a new gas tank from Moss Motors and it has numerous outlets which makes it perfect for all configurations. However the perforations (when you take the plug out) are too small for 5/16 steel gas lines. So the question is; should I drill them out so the line does enter the tank or leave them as is and hope that the ferrule effects a seal.

I just did this two weeks ago. The olive was at the very tip of the copper gas line. My thinking is you do not want the fuel line to protrude into the tank. If that happened, you would never get the tank fully empty.

I still put pipe dope on the threads.

How do the tabs line up on yours for mounting? I had to cut the hole bigger that the fuel line goes through and enlarge the bolt holes on 4 tabs. The filler neck was not in the center of the hole in the deck. Mine was from BPNW.

Skootch13 I have not mounted it yet but everything looks normal on the workbench; with respect to the steel gas line protruding up in the gas tank it could prevent 'crud' from entering the fuel system. I think that I will place a gas filter where it exits the gas tank and also buy a lockable cover because I am wary of what my 'fellow' citizens might put in the tank.

Skootch13: installed the tank #849-107 (Moss Motors) and everything lined up.
