  • I need new tires, Yokahama the best deal out there?

Looking for a 65 series, 195/15 tire to replace the 2012 set on the car now.
I seem to recall that Yokahamas are a favorite choice.

I went with the Yoko,s Ascend LX but 205/65/15 and very happy with them. Got them from tire rack and the sales guy said they were their best selling tire at the time.

I got the Yokohama Ascend GT - running on 16’s and added my own redline via Tire Stickers. I’ve been happy with them. Got mine through Discount Tire with rebate.

I have both…I have the ascend GT and the ascend LX on the TR250 and TR6. Love them.

I suggest you go down to your local favorite tire store and ask the highly trained experts there. They will suggest the best tire for your application and needs………………and, viola! they just happen to have it in stock, bonus!..
or you can think about what your driving needs and conditions are, do a little research at Tire Rack and then go looking for a tire. Or you can poll the various forums and just get whatever tire gets the most votes.
The number 2 approach does require a bit of introspection, do I drive in the wet, in the snow, or I prefer longevity in mileage, or plushy ride, do I care about crispness of steering response, ultimate grip, behavior at the adhesion limit etc. My suggestion is always the highest grip tire for your most typical TR6 driving environmental conditions, not the most typical environmental conditions where you live. The tire is the interface with the road, it determines how well the car steers, stops, and corners. and, always the the default criteria, how cheap am I, super cheap? then go to a Llantera shop and get a set of recaps.

Thanks guys! I'm going for a set of 195/15 65 series Yokohama Ascend LX tires.
My goto tire shop (America's Tires) has them in stock so I will be taking the brand new, stock steelies that I bought from Simon 6 years ago down to have them mounted.
Then I'll dismount the old rubber from the original steel rims for easier storage and try and sell them off.

Bruce --- I have the 195-65's on the front, but have it lowered 1-1/2 inches which closes up the wheel arch opening nicely. Have the 205-70 on the rear. I like the slight rake it gives the car.

FWIW I have 205/65 R15 Yoko Ascend GTs on the TR6 and 245/45 R19s on the daily-driver Lexus LS460. These tires are notable for their high mileage rating….which basically means they are hard as a rock and quite noisy.

This is more of an issue on the Lexus, which is otherwise whisper quiet. They are lasting very well indeed though.

On the TR6, where rolling noise is irrelevant, they basically still look brand new after 12,000 miles, and offer OK grip levels

In summary, I’d buy them again for the TR, but not a DD.
