  • Setting Valve clearance with a dial gauge.

Watched a YouTube video by Planetsix where he shows how he hates feeler gauges and prefers to set the clearance with a dial gauge.
Seems like a lot more work but perhaps slightly more accurate.
    Thoughs?

Seems like overkill for something that, when within .0005 is good enough and doable with a feeler blade/gauge. Unless there's a divot in the rocker arm pads, which would then require a blade that's altered to fit in the divot. Or repair or replace the rockers. Eventually...

MY 3.5 cents after skimming through the 25 minutes of both videos:

            1. He's trying to get absolute precision where it isn't possible.
            2. It must take an hour
            3. how do we know his dial gauge isn't off?
            4. Do what you want. No sweat off my back.

Sounds like another great pastime for those Mikuni guys on the Performance Forum.

Another great way to over complicate a simple thing.

I was always told valves a little loose were better than having them tight. I may use this to check my feeler gauge work the next time before I adjust the valves as mine seem a little noisy. I would use this as a double check.
