Hi folks - hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Finally completed my pandemic project, a bare-metal respray of my 71. Thought you may enjoy a few pics:

Color is BMW Imola Red, and is a non-metallic base-clear finish. It's not too far away from Triumph's Carmine Red. It's actually hard to photograph as it is quite a dark shade red in the flesh - but it really pops in the sunshine and looks really bright in pictures. Work was done by Burgess Bodyshop in Cullman, AL - an old school hot-rod shop that's been around for 50 years. I was very lucky to find someone that was willing to take the project on, and I cannot tell you how happy I am with the finish, but especially the panel gaps. They are tighter than any TR6 I have ever seen.
The project took quite a lot longer than expected - don't they always - and in the end, the car was off the road for 18 months. While the body was away, I took the opportunity to do a few mechanical upgrades, including:
- Installation of a gear reduction starter motor (wish I'd done that years ago)
- Had the original radiator re-cored and installed a SPAL electric fan with full shroud for greater efficiency (Work performed by American Radworks, Vinemont, AL - another wonderful old-school shop).
- Installed a PWM digital controller for the electric fan (see bottom left corner of last pic above). Works very well
- Rebuilt the heater with new motor etc.
- Replaced/simplified quite a bit of wiring
I have now driven for a couple of tankfuls, and it it seems there are not too many bugs to work out. Once those are done...I'm taking a break from wrenching, and just enjoying lots of driving.
