Hi folks - hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Finally completed my pandemic project, a bare-metal respray of my 71. Thought you may enjoy a few pics:

Color is BMW Imola Red, and is a non-metallic base-clear finish. It's not too far away from Triumph's Carmine Red. It's actually hard to photograph as it is quite a dark shade red in the flesh - but it really pops in the sunshine and looks really bright in pictures. Work was done by Burgess Bodyshop in Cullman, AL - an old school hot-rod shop that's been around for 50 years. I was very lucky to find someone that was willing to take the project on, and I cannot tell you how happy I am with the finish, but especially the panel gaps. They are tighter than any TR6 I have ever seen.

The project took quite a lot longer than expected - don't they always - and in the end, the car was off the road for 18 months. While the body was away, I took the opportunity to do a few mechanical upgrades, including:

    - Installation of a gear reduction starter motor (wish I'd done that years ago)
    - Had the original radiator re-cored and installed a SPAL electric fan with full shroud for greater efficiency (Work performed by American Radworks, Vinemont, AL - another wonderful old-school shop).
    - Installed a PWM digital controller for the electric fan (see bottom left corner of last pic above). Works very well
    - Rebuilt the heater with new motor etc.
    - Replaced/simplified quite a bit of wiring

I have now driven for a couple of tankfuls, and it it seems there are not too many bugs to work out. Once those are done...I'm taking a break from wrenching, and just enjoying lots of driving.

Just for reference...here is the start point on Fathers day 2013, when I received the car as a totally unexpected gift from my wife and kids. It's been a journey!

Looks fantastic! I am in the full body off restoration process with only the exterior finishes left to paint then polish. It takes way more time than my son and I had planned, but hey, it is all quality time that I get to spend with him. It also helps that he does it for a living and our little project is for fun!

I have to say your car has come a long way and looks incredible!

Wow! I can't believe that is the same car I saw over two years ago. Great job!
Those seats you gave me are still waiting for my frame-off to begin, let alone finish!

True! Still undecided on those. Quotes from several places for re-chroming my originals are astronomical right now, and the replacement Vietnamese stainless fronts are not correct for 71. So running without until I figure something out.

                          Keith,
I love the blacked-out front end. I have been thinking about doing that with my '73. Beautiful car.

                              Thank you, Tom.

I was after a clean low-key look. So I had the paint shop black out the inner grille aperture (see pic) and the grille and central cross-bar in satin black, the same as the tail of the car.

That all looked OK, but what set it all off was blacking out the headlight bezel rings. I used Plasti-Dip for those, so can just peel it off if desired, and/or renew it as required.

Also decided not to add back the driving lights, and deleted the BL emblems on front wings, the chrome trim strips under the doors, and the luggage rack.
