  • Installing new TR6 fuel tank

Can someone explain the original emission package on the ‘72 TR6. My original tank had 3 connections. Why so many. New tank will probably have just one.
I have a good used tank, $25 with local pickup in Johnstown, Pa.

    Bob,

The Roadster Factory TR6 catalogs have pretty good illustrations by year for emission control and evaporative loss systems. It might be the easiest way to get to your answer. Also, I like the phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words”.

By connections are you including the fuel line outlet in that total? You will need at least one vent line with a vapor trap in order to flow fuel. The tank actually seals surprisingly well at the filler neck.

My original emission line was connected to both sides of the tank on top and also to a fitting on the fill pipe. I don’t see a trap anywhere.

My 71 TR has a trap in the right side inner fender panel. See part AR5 here:

Any extra vent attachments can be plugged as long as the tank still vents. I know mine ultimately vents through the charcoal canister up front by the carbs. Mine originally had the vent line plugged from inner fender burp tank down along the frame rail. So I replaced the entire line from canister to burp tank, and from burp tank to filler neck.
