    Best valve cover gasket?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all!! I was the appreciative recipient of a SS Goodparts radiator shroud and an alloy valve cover from Moss. Any suggestions for a valve cover gasket?

    Thanks in advance.

The silicon gasket is the way to go for an alloy valve cover. The stock, cork gasket for a tin cover doesn't really fit.

ARE (Alexander Racing Enterprises) is the originator of the silicon valve cover gasket. He supplies many other vendors with it. It fits so sweet-like.

I have the stock valve cover but the silicone gasket works great there too. It’s basically permanent unless damaged.

As Bruce mentions, you cannot beat this. I like to go directly to the original seller when I can.

I have an alloy cover and use the standard cork gasket - no leaks in 6-7 years since I put it on. Just Permatex’d (2 the non hardening one) to the cover to hold it and nothing but clean surface to the head.

Have to agree standard cork gasket works just fine and has through (2) TR6's.

I've got the silicone...unlike the cork, it's extremely flexible which I found made it harder to 'apply' it to the valve cover...If you get one you'll see what I'm trying to describe.
I'm not trying to talk you out of it though..once you overcome that part of the process, I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

It can be like trying to shove a marshmallow into a piggy bank. Once I finally got it seated it sealed perfectly and I have no leaks.

Did you apply RTF sealant to the valve cover side of the silicon gasket Also the rounded sise of the side towards the cover with the flat side sitting on the engine?

Sealant only on valve cover side. Rounded side on valve cover. No leaks. No sealant on the head side.

Silicone gasket applied as suggested on newly powder coated valve cover. Decided on color change from standard grey.

Looks good. Until I used that gasket I thought my heater valve was leaking a little as it was damp in that area. After the new gasket I realized it was the valve cover.

I ended up with ARE, nice fit, not too finicky to stick to the valve cover.
