  • Special wrench for j-type od solenoid removal

Is there a source for the special, thin wrench need to remove the J-Type OD solenoid? I know many have machined down a regular spanner to the required thinness, but how thin does it need to be?

My machining process was simple. Grab an extra old 1” open end wrench, cut it off with a cut off disc so it’s length is about 4”.

Then, grind the wrench jaws down to about 1/4” in thickness to fit the narrow solenoid attachment.

This stubby wrench allows solenoid removal with trans still in the car.

I have photos but alas, no ability to post here presently. Contact me offline and I can email these if you like...

Thanks Mike! I sent you a PM. That feature is still working.

I’d go to HF and buy an inexpensive thin wrench or crows foot as above and modify it to fit your needs.

Thanks everyone for the quick feedback. As my bench grinder is still packed up from the move a year and half ago, and being lazy, I ordered the tool from James Paddock in England.
Shipping was twice the cost for the tool, but I went for it anyway.
