  • Retain relay kit with LED headlights?

A question for our electrical experts. I installed the Moss 117-515 headlight relay kit a few years ago when running halogen lamps. If I switch to H4 LEDs, will I need to pull out the relay kit? I was looking at the part 171-LEDHL101 from lbcarco.com:

    Thanks

Not the expert, but I kept the relay when I made the switch to LED headlights. Click image for larger version

Your LEDs likely draw less power than your halogens, so the relays probably aren’t necessary any more, but they’re still taking load off the original wiring, so they’re still a net positive. I’d leave them in place.

Isn't one of the big advantages of the relays that they take a load off the dashboard switch?

What Spud said. Not needed as much as before but won’t hurt when dealing with 40+ year old electrics and switches.

I kept the relay set up when I switched.
